This course covers content equivalent to what is in the first half of the SOAS Language Centre course: Chinese Beginner 1. The course, while complete in itself as a ‘taster’ course, will enable students to progress on to Essential Chinese 2. It also provides a useful orientation for those contemplating joining one of our short courses in the autumn term. The course is designed to give participants an appreciation of Chinese as a linguistic system and enables participants to communicate a limited amount of information on simple every-day topics. No knowledge of any language other than English is presupposed. The course is taught in English and Chinese. Class size is limited to fifteen to allow intensive interactive practice.
