Rooted in Goshu Ondo, a traditional festival song from the Kansai region, their sound connects continents and musical histories, drawing influence from Japan, Bulgaria, Brazil, and the UK. Agatha, raised in Kansai, brings a background shaped by The Beatles and Brazilian music , which eventually led her to Minyo. Miyuki Sato and Agatha together blend Balkan polyphony with Japanese festival rhythms to reinterpret traditional songs like Itokuri Bushi from Amami Ōshima, coloured with Brazilian guitar, or Akita Daikokumai, reimagined with the Bulgarian kaval flute. In Zaraita Bushi, they merge a Meiji-era Yokohama work song with Bulgarian folk tune Prala Nachka, creating a cross-cultural anthem. Their work breathes new life into Minyo, offering a fresh take on folk tradition. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
